Hourly Rate: $17.62 - $18.55 (up to 24 hour work week, shift work required)

The City of Oshawa is now accepting applications for  Soccer League Convener for the Fall/Winter 2014/2015 indoor season.

Reporting to the Program Co-ordinator, the Soccer League Convener is responsible for ensuring the Civic Recreation Complex Oshawa Indoor Soccer Adult League runs smoothly and efficiently.

Oshawa Indoor Soccer League Convener duties include:

  • Develop league game and play off schedules as well as divisional alignments
  • Coordinate team captain meetings
  • Communicate updates and league information with team representatives, players & referees
  • Verify and hand out game sign-in sheets to team representatives
  • Verify and hand out game sheets to referees to scores games
  • Collect all completed game sheets and sign in forms at the end of the night
  • Assist with compiling weekly statistics from the information collected on game sheets
  • Ensure league runs smoothly on a weekly basis
  • May be required follow up with team payments/balances each week to ensure teams adhere to the payment policies
  • Report all incidents, accidents, issues and concerns to the Program Coordinator and complete all formal paperwork (accident, incident, complaint forms)
  • Enforce City of Oshawa rules and polices including the alcohol/smoking polices
  • Ensure all equipment is prepared/put away during each session and other duties as assigned
  • May be required ensure referees arrive for shifts
  • May be required contact referees in case of absence or last minute emergencies
  • May be required to officiate and/or watch games and contribute their point of view if incident arises on or off the field
  • Provide input with regard to player suspensions, as required

The successful applicant must have:

  • Thorough knowledge of the rules of soccer as well as OISL league rules (experience as a player, coach, or referee in organized soccer club is an asset)
  • Experience with creating league schedules for multiple divisions of play
  • Experience scheduling league play-offs and tournaments
  • Ability to work under pressure
  • Possess personal qualities of maturity, tact, discretion and have a willing and co-operative attitude
  • Superior communication skills and the ability to demonstrate excellent customer service skills to deal effectively and courteously with staff and the general public; good interpersonal skills with the ability to establish and maintain positive working relationships
  • Ability to work under pressure

Additional Requirements:

  • Candidates must possess and keep current Standard First Aid/CPR ‘C’ qualifications
  • Provide a current (within six months) Criminal Information Request prior to employment start date
  • Required to attend all staff trainings and all OISL league games
  • Ability to work shifts, including evenings, weekends and holidays as required
