Works & Transportation Services
The Works and Transportation Branch is responsible for the operation and maintenance of the City's infrastructure of roads, sidewalks, parking facilities, underground assets and fleet in compliance to legal requirements and industry standards. This work is coordinated through the following Divisions:
- Fleet Services
- Road Operations
- Parking Services
- Traffic and Streetlighting
Fleet Services
The Fleet Services Division ensures that the City has safe, reliable, quality vehicles, equipment and specialty tools. The division provides support to City Departments in the selection and specification of vehicles and equipment and administers a comprehensive maintenance, repair and replacement program for the fleet and equipment.
Road Operations
The Road Operations Division is responsible for the inspection and maintenance of City roads, sidewalks and storm water infrastructure including street sweeping, pot hole repair, shoulder maintenance, sidewalk maintenance, signage and winter control operations. Winter control operations includes salting and plowing of roadways, sidewalk and windrow clearing for seniors and the disabled, and enforcement of the City's snow clearing by-law. The Division is also responsible for ensuring that the Branch is kept abreast of new trends in the industry and provides technical support regarding such areas as design, routing, maintenance programs and data warehousing.
Parking Services
The Parking Services Division is responsible for the planning, operation and management of the Municipal Parking System, including marketing, facility parking lot maintenance and capital planning.
Traffic and Streetlighting
The Traffic and Streetlighting Division is responsible for the safe and efficient movement of vehicular and pedestrian traffic on the City's transportation network through the installation, operation and maintenance of traffic control systems and safety programs. The Division is also responsible for the School Crossing Assistance Program which includes the implementation and monitoring of school crossings within the City limits.
