Heritage Oshawa

Heritage Oshawa logo Heritage Oshawa is our Municipal Heritage Committee, made up of Council appointed volunteer members from the community.

We advise Council on matters relating to the conservation, education and promotion of Oshawa's cultural heritage resources. Cultural heritage resources include structures, streetscapes, landscapes, natural areas, cemeteries and burial places, and archaeological sites.

Heritage Oshawa works within the guidelines of the Ontario Heritage Act and the Oshawa Official Plan, and is dedicated to keeping Oshawa's heritage alive.

To correspond with Heritage Oshawa submit written correspondence to City Clerk Services. Please include your name and contact information including a telephone number where you can be reached. If you wish to appear as a delegation, please complete the Delegation Request Form.

Work Plan

Key activities of Heritage Oshawa include:

Researching heritage properties
Preparing designation reports for Council's consideration
Updating the Heritage Oshawa Inventory of architecturally and/or historically significant properties
Nominating heritage properties to be added to The City of Oshawa Register of Properties of Cultural Heritage Value or Interest
Reviewing development applications or demolition permit applications
Documenting threatened sites
Assisting property owners with information about renovations and current heritage programs
Promoting education and awareness about Oshawa's cultural heritage resources and heritage conservation efforts

Policy Advisor

The Policy Advisor is responsible for assisting the Committee in its work by, among other things, providing policy guidance on matters within the purview of the Committee and support in developing and implementing the Committee's annual work plan.

Advisory Committee Coordinator

The Advisory Committee Coordinator is responsible for facilitating the work of the Committee by preparing agendas and minutes and making arrangements for those who wish to speak to the Committee.
