Pre-Teen Dance at Northview Community Centre

A great time out with your friends! Dances run 6:30pm - 9:30pm. Tickets cost $8.00 and will go on sale one week prior to each dance, and can be purchased at the recreation facility. Babysitting 101

Join the Canadian Red Cross for this all day course that will prepare you for a great job this summer. Participants will learn information to allow them to stay home alone or to provide child care services to others. The price includes the training manual and a certification card upon successful completion of the course. Participants should bring a baby doll or teddy bear, a pen/pencil and their peanut free lunch. For ages 11-17. Cost of programme is $45. Payments to be made the day of. Cake Decorating Competition in support of The Huntington Society

All proceeds from this event will be donated to The Huntington Society of Canada. Event begins at 12:00 p.m. and ends at 4:00 p.m. There are 4 categories within the competition: Children (8-12 yrs), Teen (13-17 yrs), Amateur (18+ yrs) and Professional (18+ yrs). There is a minimum donation requirement in order to participate. There will be prizes for 1 winner within each category. Tickets to the event can be purchased in advance or at the door. General Admission is $10.00, Seniors (65+ yrs) $8.00 and Children (under 12 yrs) $6.00). There will be refreshments and door prizes.

Trafalgar 24

Trafalgar 24 Creativity knows no bounds (unless you’ve been locked in a haunted castle overnight with eight hours to write a play) Driftwood Theatre - Ontario’s most exciting and accessible theatre company - is thrilled to be embarking on their 16th season with Trafalgar 24, the annual play-creation festival and fundraising gala. In only 24 hours, 40 Artists will write, produce, rehearse and perform ten original new works in various locations of the 19th century Trafalgar Castle. The 24 hour event will culminate in a public performance of each of the works and gala that starts at 6pm on Friday, March 12th, 2010. Riffs N Rock

Second year Public Relations students from Durham College are hosting the Riffs N Rock concert Friday March 12 at the college’s pub, E.P. Taylor’s. This is an all ages event that’s open to the public. Tickets are selling for $10 and doors will be open at 7:30 p.m. A variety of musical talent will include If Looks Could Kill, 85 East, District Down, In Your Dishonour and Fallen Legion. Bands will be selling their CD’s, shirts, stickers and other paraphernalia so make sure to bring money. There will also be drinks and food available for the event. Trash or Treasure? (Antiques Appraisal Event)

Digging up the Past: Archaeology and Ancient History for Kids in the 21st Century

Does assembling pottery shards, learning to write with Native and Egyptian Hieroglyphs and making mummies sound like a great time? The Oshawa Community Museum will be wrapping, writing, discovering and digging up the past this March Break! On March 15, 17 and 19, the Museum is hosting its children’s archaeology camp, “Digging up the Past”. Children must register for all three days and will get to participate in the Introduction to Archaeology, on day one and the Native and Greek and Egyptian History classes on days two and three. The cost of registration is $60 per child for all three days. The programs run from 9 a.m. – 3 p.m. and are suitable for children ages 7 – 12. Space is limited, so book now!!!

A 19th Century Travelling Lanternist

Join the Oshawa Historical Society for a memorable evening with Magic Lanternist Lindsay Lambert. Mr. Lambert will give an entertaining look at life in the late 19th and early 20th century, with the help of an instrument popular during that time period – a magic lantern. Magic lanterns were a popular source of entertainment particularly during the Victorian period before the advent of motion pictures. His magic lantern show will illustrate the history of the shows and their typical content and social messages using original lantern slides including special animated slides, hand coloured slides and photographs.

When you purchase daffodils from the Canadian Cancer Society, you provide a lifeline to everything we do: from research to maintaining community outreach programs, and advocacy. Volunteers will be selling daffodils at local grocery stores, drug stores, big retailers, shopping malls, LCBOs and Beer Stores throughout the Durham Region. Bust-A-Move University Dance Competition

Don't miss one of the biggest events on the University/College dance circuit: B.A.M. (Bust-a-Move). The all-day competition will feature the top dance teams from Universities and Colleges across Ontario competing against one another in a variety of dance styles. Four professional judges will be at the event including one of the top contestants from So You Think You Can Dance Canada - B-boy, Miles Faber. Admission is free for students with a valid ID card. 2nd Annual Coffee, Tea & Words Read-a-Thon

This year, along with the Oshawa Public Libraies and other community partners, we are hosting our 2nd Annual Coffee, Tea & Words Read-a-Thon at Isabella’s Chocolate Café in downtown Oshawa. The event will run for 24 consecutive hours, beginning at noon on March 27th and ending at noon on March 28th. Over the course of 24 hours, individuals will have the opportunity to read aloud from novels, short stories, plays and poetry to help us meet the challenge of raising $8,000 to benefit the Literacy Council of Durham Region!
