The Community Legends Recognition Program, presented by the City of Oshawa, is an opportunity to celebrate people whose actions have made a positive impact on the Oshawa community.

A Community Legend is an individual of any age or an organization/group living in Oshawa. Nominees have:
  • made a significant contribution in an activity, sport or community initiative
  • contributed to improving the quality of life of the Oshawa community and/or have made an impact on the Oshawa community at a grass roots level, in Arts & Culture, Sport or Community initiatives 

How to Nominate your Legend:

  • Complete a nomination form. 
  • Return your completed nomination form to any City of Oshawa recreation facility, any branch of the Oshawa Public Libraries or any branch of the Oshawa Senior Citizens Centres.

2006 - Oshawa Block Parents Association

For over 30 years, the Oshawa Block Parents Association has been a driving force in ensuring the safety and well-being of children in our community. A volunteer based agency, their visual presence in Oshawa has assisted with crime prevention, built confidants and has allowed the community to feel safe and secure in knowing there are identified people who will help.

2007 - Jim Potticary

Jim Potticary made a substantial impact on the Oshawa community by promoting the health, welfare and happiness of senior citizens by advocating for programs and services to foster senior empowerment, social interaction and public education.

2008 - Dave Thompson

Dave Thompson was selected for his dedication and leadership in the development of Rugby in Oshawa. With over 40 years of Rugby involvement, Dave has been given the Outstanding Club member Award 4 times, been named Most Valuable Player and has been an elected member of the Board of Directors of the Viking Rugby Club for 20 years.

2010 - Ken Shaw

The City of Oshawa recognized the substantial impact Ken has made to both the Oshawa community and the Durham Region. He has devoted tireless volunteer and community service hours and dedicated a great deal of time and energy to various charities.

Nominations for the 2012 Community Legends Recognition program are due December 31, 2012.
