Special Consideration Regarding Garbage Bag Limits Program

The City of Oshawa gives special consideration regarding garbage bag limits to:

• residents with a medical condition that creates excessive waste
• residents with three children under the age of three
• residents with disabilities who are unable to transport full bags to the curb and need to distribute their waste between more, smaller bags

The City will provide participants with an annual allotment of bag tags which allows the placement of additional bags, above the four bag limit, for curb side collection. Please note that participants in the program are responsible to comply with all other requirements in the City's Waste Collection By-law No. 113-2008.

Waste Collection Cart Program

The City of Oshawa does not collect residual waste from returnable containers (garbage cans), as doing so poses a safety risk to our waste collection operators. However, residents with accessibility issues may apply for approval to use a cart, or other apparatus, to assist them in bringing their residual waste to the curb.

Residents must purchase or provide their own carts for the program. Carts selected must be such that the waste collection operator does not have to reach into the cart to remove the residual waste bags. Please note that the City does not purchase or supply carts to residents.
