Taxicab Licensing
Applications for Taxicab Driver's Licenses, Taxicab Vehicle Owner Licenses and Taxicab Broker Licenses may be obtained Monday to Friday, 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m.
Taxicab Driver's License applicants must be at least 18 years of age and hold a valid Ontario Driver's License. Taxicab Vehicle Owner Licenses are issued to persons listed on the Plate Issuance Eligibility List. To have your name added to the PIEL, you must fill out an application for a Taxicab Vehicle Owner License and prove eligibility. Taxicab Broker Licenses are issued to persons or companies prepared to operate licensed taxicab vehicles.
Prior to issuance of any license, the applicant must obtain a Criminal Information Request Form (CIR) from the any Police Service in Ontario. The applicant is required to state on the form the purpose for this request. If any charges or convictions appear on the CIR, City Clerk Services' staff will determine whether the license may be issued immediately or if the applicant is required to appear before the Community Services Committee and City Council. A fee is charged for a CIR.
