City Administered Waste Collection Service on Private Property

The City of Oshawa provides curbside municipal waste collection service, either by municipal collection forces or through contracted services.

Municipal Waste Collection Service on private property, such as for multi-residential apartment complexes and condominiums, requires special consideration during the design and planning process. Not all multi-residential buildings receive municipal collection service through the City of Oshawa. In some locations garbage collection is provided privately by the property owner. To find out whether your building participates in the program, ask your building superintendent.

The City may consider providing municipal waste collection service for existing complexes currently receiving collection by a private contractor. New or existing complexes wishing to receive municipal waste collection service should consult the following information:

Properties eligible to receive curbside collection are also required to implement a source separation program which would include the collection of green bin (collection services provided by the City of Oshawa) and recycling collection (provided by the Region of Durham).

Owners of multi-unit residential buildings, containing six or more dwelling units, are required under Ontario Regulation 103/94 (O. Reg.103/94 – Source Separation Programs) to operate a source-separation program.
