Our Harbour Campaign

  • As you may have read in "Inside Oshawa", the City is continuing a grassroots community campaign to impress upon the federal government the significance of funding and implementing David Crombie’s recommendations;
  • We deserve a beautiful, modern harbour and waterfront that everyone in our city can enjoy;
  • Oshawa’s harbour has the potential to be the centerpiece of our waterfront; however, the harbour is not under the City’s control. It is owned and managed by the federally appointed Oshawa Harbour Commission (Canada’s last remaining harbour commission).
  • The City has made numerous requests to the federal government, dating back to 1998, regarding the cleanup and return of the harbour lands. We simply want two things from the federal government: 1) that they return the harbour and the adjacent lands to the City of Oshawa - its rightful owner; and 2) that they pay for the environmental clean-up;
  • The campaign is meant to raise the profile of the issue with local citizens and convince the federal government to implement David Crombie’s recommendations;
  • But, we can’t do it without your support!
  • If you would like to be part of realizing the waterfront’s potential call 905-436-5686 or e-mail ourharbour@oshawa.ca.
  • Thank you for your support!
