Message from the Mayor
From Vision to Reality, An Action Plan for a Sustainable Oshawa is our second generation strategic plan. Our goal is to build on the pride and energy generated by the first strategic plan, Creating Our Tomorrow, approved by Council in 2005.
On March 7, 2011, Oshawa City Council approved five goals to guide it during the term of office. Council directed staff to use these five goals to develop a new strategic plan that addresses the five pillars of sustainability - Financial, Economic, Social, Environmental and Governance. The result is this plan, which for the first time integrates all aspects of the City’s operation under the umbrella of sustainability.
Oshawa is already a great city to live, work, learn and play but we want and need to become a more sustainable city to compete on the international stage as a leader and evolve as one of the greatest cities in the world.
During the term of Council, this plan will be the city’s highest level policy document – a comprehensive strategy that will guide the work of city government, our decisions and support the development of our community. The plan speaks to our collective commitment to a new way of doing business that will ensure Oshawa’s long-term viability, vitality and resilience.
Let’s work together to make our vision of a sustainable Oshawa a reality.

Mayor John Henry
