Mary Street North Traffic Management Review
In December 2006, City Council directed staff to work with the Mary Street Community Committee to develop a plan to reduce vehicle speeds on Mary Street North. The section of Mary Street North between Rosedale Avenue and Rossland Road East also needs to be reconstructed. The future design of Mary Street North needs to be concluded prior to this road reconstruction.
The section of Mary Street North between Adelaide Avenue East and Beatrice Street East has been identified for a traffic management review. The overall study area for undertaking this review includes near-by areas that use Mary Street North or could be affected by changes to Mary Street North.
On September 7, 2010, City Council provided direction to staff to hold a public meeting to provide information and solicit additional members to the Mary Street Neighbourhood Traffic Management Committee. Council also directed that City staff from Community Services and Development Services provide support to the new Committee to develop a plan that incorporates design elements including road, classification, cycling requirements and traffic calming. Council further directed that an all-way stop be implemented at Hillcroft and Mary Street immediately.
A public meeting was held on December 9, 2010 at which time an updated Mary Street North Traffic Management Committee was formed. This Committee will be working with City staff in conducting a traffic management review and developing a plan for this section of Mary Street North.
