The Central Lake Ontario Conservation Authority advises that the Surface Water Monitoring Centre of the Ministry of Natural Resources and Forestry is forecasting a low pressure system which will move into our watershed late this evening and continue into Sunday morning. Rainfall amounts of up to 20 – 35 mm are expected.
The forecasted rainfall combined with warm temperatures and associated snowmelt could result in increased runoff causing higher than normal water levels and flows in all our streams and creeks, resulting in dangerous flow conditions especially in the vicinity of culverts and bridges. Localized flooding can be expected on roadways, in low lying and flood prone areas.
The Central Lake Ontario Conservation Authority is asking all residents to stay away from all watercourses and structures such as bridges, culverts and dams. Elevated water levels, fast flowing water, weak ice and slippery conditions along stream banks continue to make these locations extremely dangerous. Children should be warned to stay away from all watercourses and ponds.
This Watershed Conditions Statement – Flood Outlook will be in effect through to Sunday December 15, 2019. The Central Lake Ontario Conservation Authority will continue to monitor the conditions of the streams and creeks and will provide updates as required.
