To protect the health of our local Veterans and community members, Oshawa’s Royal Canadian Legion Branches and the City of Oshawa will once again provide the Remembrance Day ceremony virtually.
Oshawa’s Royal Canadian Legion Branches and the City encourage community members to watch Oshawa’s Remembrance Day ceremony on Thursday, November 11 at 10:30 a.m. by tuning in to the live broadcast RogersTV.com/Durham from their computers or mobile devices. Alternatively, the ceremony can be watched on cable 10, 63 & HD510, Ignite TV HD508. The ceremony includes:
- laying of the wreaths;
- remembrance ceremony; and
- closing remarks.
The 2021 ceremony will not feature a parade or gathering in Memorial Park, and community members are asked not to travel to Memorial Park to attend the ceremony in person.
This year marks the 76th anniversary of the end of the Second World War. At the eleventh hour of the eleventh day of the eleventh month, one minute of silence will be observed to honour all who have fallen and acknowledge those who have served for our freedom.
In addition to viewing the ceremony, there are numerous ways the community can safely reflect, honour, and remember on November 11, including:
- Observe 2 minutes of silence at 11:00 a.m.
- Wear a poppy and support the Poppy Campaign
- Discover our local history:
Learn about Remembrance Day and the stories of those we honour:- Reach out to a Veteran by phone or email to say thank you
- Send a note to a Veteran through Postcards for Peace (students)
- Submit a photo of a relative or friend to be included on the Virtual Wall of Honour & Remembrance.
