The City of Oshawa’s Operations Services Branch is responsible for the ongoing maintenance of roads, sidewalks, parks, trees, storm water ponds/catch basins, and provide services such as waste collection, snow removal and street cleaning throughout the City. Several service areas currently use AutoCAD to maintain and visualize route information and are in need of modernization.
The City of Oshawa Operations Services Branch is interested in a collaborative project where students can apply their knowledge in the development of converting current route maps from AutoCAD to GIS for street sweeping, winter maintenance, sidewalk plow, patrol and other service areas. The project will strive to develop a sustainable approach data construction, so that information that is useful today will be compatible, accessible and transferrable for future use...
The City of Oshawa is committed to the development of an inclusive, healthy and safe community by providing accessible facilities and outdoor spaces. Playground safety surfacing is a key component of any playground, minimizing risks to users and is required as part of safety standards.
TeachingCity is looking to collaborate in a research project focused on exploring the various types of playground safety surfaces and providing the City with a concise technical guidance document that summarizes the research findings which can be used for decision making in park design...
The City of Oshawa maintains approximately 30 km of urban multi-use recreational trails that wind their way through creek corridors, parks, natural areas and neighbourhoods. Trail use has steadily increased with the potential for trail user conflicts. The City needs to ensure that the existing multi-use recreational trails and future trails continue to be inclusive and can safely support the increase in trail use and influx in the various types of trail users.
TeachingCity is interested in a research project to include developing and conducting a trail user survey in order to determine user characteristics, type of use, sections of trail that are high use, amenities that are needed and primary reasons for using the trail system. Production of a report which identifies ways that the City can improve safety on trails and safely accommodate the various trail users...
The City of Oshawa has seen an increase in the number of sightings of coyotes in recent years. While the city works in collaboration with Coyote Watch Canada and the Ministry Northern Development, Mines, Natural Resources and Forestry to develop best practices, there is limited knowledge on the specifics of the coyote population.
The City's desire is to promote a peaceful existence and undertake measures to reduce conflict while a Coyote Response Management Plan is being developed. TeachingCity is interested in exploring partnerships focused on coyote data and research and/or fostering coexistence...
