Community Services-Fire Services
Responsibilities:
- Aim for the highest professional standards in service delivery and internal management.
- Develop a comprehensive life and property protection service with continuous review to identify the municipality's changing fire service requirements.
- Promote the coordinated effort of all staff and resources in the fire service to ensure the effectiveness of our fire and public safety mission.
- Maintain a comprehensive training program to educate personnel in the latest knowledge and techniques in performing their duties.
- Develop and maintain good working relations with all federal, provincial, regional and municipal departments, utilities and agencies.
- Prepare maintenance programs to insure the preparedness of all equipment required in the delivery of fire and public safety.
- Develop and maintain a Corporate Emergency Plan that complies with the Emergency Management and Civil Protection Act; and provides safety and protection to residents.
Fire Services is comprised of five divisions:
Administration
- Responsible for the overall management of Fire Services.
Fire Prevention
- Responsible for public education, new construction, plans examination code enforcement and fire investigation.
Training
- Coordinates all training for Fire Services staff.
Suppression
- Respond to fires, medical assist calls, vehicles accidents and a number of specialized rescues such as water, confined space, technical rope rescue, trench entrapments, hazardous materials incidents, etc. Some of these specialized rescues are offered to support neighbouring municipalities in times in need.
- Responsible for the day-to-day maintenance of vehicles and equipment repair as well as assisting with new vehicle specifications and equipment purchases.
