The City of Oshawa’s municipal and school board elections will take place on Monday, October 24, 2022.

Monday, May 2 Nominations and registration open
  • Nominations open for Mayor, Regional and & City Councillor, City Councillor and School Board Trustee Candidates.
  • Registrations open for Third Party Advertisers.
  • Nominations open for Regional Chair through the Regional Clerk.
Friday, August 12 First day to request to vote by mail
  • From August 12 – September 12, qualified voters can request to vote by mail online, in-person at Service Oshawa or by calling Service Oshawa at 905-436-3311. 
Friday, August 19 at 2 p.m. Nomination Day
  • Last day for candidates to file nominations between 9:00 a.m. and 2:00 p.m.
  • A candidate who wishes to withdraw their nomination must notify the City Clerk in writing before 2:00 p.m.
Thursday, September 1 Voters’ List becomes available
  • Voters can make changes to their information on the Oshawa Voters’ List until the close of voting on Monday, October 24, 2022
  • The Voters’ List is made available to candidates.
Monday, September 12 Election Signs may be posted
  • Municipal election signs can be erected, placed, maintained or displayed starting on Monday, September 12, 2022. (Election Signs By-law 42-2014).
Monday, September 12 Last day to request to vote by mail
  • From August 12 – September 12, qualified voters can request to vote by mail online, in-person at Service Oshawa or by calling Service Oshawa at 905-436-3311. 
Monday, October 10 Last day to return vote-by-mail ballot via Canada Post
  • Voters who requested a vote-by-mail ballot may return their marked ballot in the pre-paid return envelope through any Canada Post box no later than Monday, October 10.
Thursday, October 20 Last day to submit vote-by-mail ballot at Vote Oshawa drop box
  • Voters who requested a vote-by-mail ballot may submit their marked ballot in the return envelope at any of the six Vote Oshawa drop boxes throughout the city no later than Thursday, October 20. 
Friday, October 21 at 4:30 p.m. Last day to register as a Third Party Advertiser
  • Third Party Advertisers must be registered prior to 4:30 p.m. on Friday, October 21.
Monday, October 24 Voting Day
  • Voting in regular voting places is open from 10:00 a.m. to 8:00 p.m.
Monday, October 31 Election Signs to be removed
  • Election signs must be removed on or prior to this date.
Tuesday, November 15 Term of Office commences
  • The 4 year Term of Office commences for elected members.
  • The inaugural Council meeting is held on November 15, 2022 at 9:30 a.m.

  • Last day to file a Notice of Extension, Form 6, to continue campaigning to erase a deficit.
Friday, March 31 at 2 p.m. Deadline to file
  • Deadline for candidates and third party advertisers to file the initial financial statement.
Friday, June 30 End of extended campaign period
  • End of extended campaign period.
Friday, September 29 at 2 p.m. Supplementary filing deadline
  • Deadline for candidates and third party advertisers to file the supplementary financial statement (applies only to those who extended their campaign period).
