Accessibility in Oshawa
The City is committed to the providing a healthy and safe community with accessible facilities, programs and services for everyone to enjoy.
The City works hard to follow the Accessibility for Ontarians with Disabilities Act 2005 (A.O.D.A.) and the required provincial requirements in the Integrated Accessibility Standards Regulation.
Our accessibility advisory committee
To help us, the City has an accessibility advisory committee of community members to identify, remove and prevent accessibility barriers in municipal facilities, programs and services.
Our accessibility plan
We have created a multi-year accessibility plan that shows you the steps we are taking to remove barriers for people with disabilities. Each year we will give you an update on our progress.

Oshawa Accessibility Design Standards
Our Oshawa Accessibility Design Standards (O.A.D.S.) is a technical guide we use to make sure that our building projects are accessible, and in many cases, are exceeding the Ontario Building Code requirements.
This standard is used for the construction of new buildings, as well as renovations to existing places that are owned, leased or operated by the City.
The use of the O.A.D.S. is encouraged throughout the community as the requirements include the principles of universal design that benefit people of all ages and abilities.
