City celebrates Community Legends and E.P. Taylor Windfields Farm Champion award winners
The City of Oshawa congratulates this year’s Community Legends and E.P. Taylor Windfields Farm Champion award recipients who are celebrated for their significant contributions to the community.
Community Legends Award
The Community Legends Award recognizes individuals and organizations whose everyday actions positively impact Oshawa.
Selected by Oshawa City Council based on nominations from the community, the Ukrainian Canadian Congress – Durham Region Branch is the recipient of this year’s Community Legends Award. The award recognizes their support for ongoing cultural initiatives within the community and for improving the quality of life for Oshawa’s new Ukrainian community members.
E.P. Taylor Windfields Farm Champion Award
The E.P. Taylor Windfields Farm Champion Award is presented once every four years. The recipient exemplifies innovation and demonstrates an ability to overcome adversity.
This year’s E.P. Taylor Windfields Farm Champion Award recipient is George-Ihor Lysyk. During the COVID-19 pandemic, Mr. Lysyk was passionate about helping local businesses thrive and continue to operate while facing challenges resulting from the pandemic. Mr. Lysyk developed an idea to rent spots to food trucks on a parcel of land he owned in North Oshawa so that families could still enjoy a meal together and to help local food businesses operate. This is now known as The Food Truck Corral Oshawa, which is entering its third year of operation seasonally.
