City of Oshawa extends its condolences to family of former accessibility advisory committee chair Linda Tamburro
The City of Oshawa extends our condolences to the family and friends of former long-standing Oshawa Accessibility Advisory Committee (O.A.A.C.) volunteer member Linda Tamburro who passed away recently.
A well-respected community member known for her passion to helping develop an accessible community for all abilities, Linda was first appointed in December 2006 to the O.A.A.C., an advisory committee of Oshawa City Council.
Between 2006 and 2020, Linda served a number of terms and in various roles on the O.A.A.C., including Vice-Chair in 2014 and Chair from 2015-2017, as well as serving on the Built Environment, Municipal and Communications sub-committees.
As a committed and passionate member of the O.A.A.C., Linda was instrumental in moving forward a number of actions to help contribute to a barrier-free Oshawa and raise awareness. Linda was a key supporter of a number of O.A.A.C. initiatives, including the launch of a new O.A.A.C. logo and flag in 2019.
“On behalf of City Council and the City of Oshawa, it is with deep sadness that we extend our thoughts and condolences to the family and friends of Linda Tamburro. Linda was a dedicated volunteer whose many contributions have made a lasting impact on developing a more inclusive, accessible community. Linda’s passion, service and contributions will be remembered for many years to come,” said Oshawa Mayor Dan Carter.
“We will hold our memories of Linda dear. So many Oshawa residents, and the O.A.A.C. members especially, are grateful to have known her. She was an extraordinary inspiration to us, with her strength and determination through all her physical difficulties, her vitality and sense of fun, and her great ideas and commitment to removing barriers and helping improve the quality of life for others,” said Councillor Rosemary McConkey, Council Representative, Oshawa Accessibility Advisory Committee.
First introduced to the community during National AccessAbility Week in 2019, the O.A.A.C. flag will be flown at half-mast at City Hall from Tuesday, February 11 until Thursday, February 13 in memory of Linda Tamburro and her contributions to the community.
The Oshawa Accessibility Advisory Committee advises and assists the City of Oshawa including its agencies, boards and commissions in developing and facilitating strategies and actions toward developing and maintaining a barrier-free community with a goal to improving the quality of life for people of all abilities.
