Durham Region Notice: Highway 401 tunnel decommissioning at Merritt St. in the City of Oshawa
The Regional Municipality of Durham will begin construction for the Highway 401 tunnel liner decommissioning at Merritt St. in the City of Oshawa. The limits of the work include the Ritson Rd. westbound on-ramp to Highway 401, night work on Highway 401, and Merritt St. north of Bloor St. E. This contract will also require access and construction storage at the end of Howard St.
Construction Schedule
The Region’s contractor, Tydon Contracting Ltd., will mobilize March 24, 2023 and anticipates completing the work by June 2023.
Road Closures and Lane Restrictions
Nighttime lane closures on Highway 401 between Harmony Rd. and Simcoe St. will be required frequently in both directions throughout the duration of the construction period.
The north end of Merritt St. will be closed while maintaining access for local residents. Notification will be given to residents if vehicles need to be moved out of their driveway.
Residents should expect traffic delays and are asked to exercise additional caution for the safety of the construction workers.
Municipal construction projects include the use of equipment which may cause noticeable noise and vibration for nearby residents and businesses. The Region realizes that the construction work will be disruptive and will make every effort to complete the work as quickly and efficiently as possible.
