Interest in fox den puts wildlife at risk
City of Oshawa Parks staff have identified a fox den in south Oshawa which is attracting the attention of visitors and photographers. Although we appreciate the keen interest in urban wildlife, this attention can be harmful to wildlife and park users.
Individuals have been spotted feeding and disrupting the foxes when taking photos. This puts the animals at risk of disease and becoming habituated (loss of fear) to humans which is detrimental to their health and negatively impacts their ability to survive in the wild.
We remind community members to respect nature and practise ethical wildlife photography. Please:
- Do not feed the foxes or any other wildlife
- Do not approach foxes, their dens or their young
- Do not touch or chase foxes
- Keep your dogs on leash
