Learn how to save a life: free CPR clinic June 22
Seconds count in the event of cardiac arrest; are you ready to help? The City of Oshawa, Durham College and Ontario Tech University, in partnership with Lakeridge Health and the Durham Region Critical Incident Stress Support Team, want you to feel comfortable lending a hand in an emergency situation and have come together to offer a free non-certificate CPR training next month.
Community members can attend a two-hour workshop on Thursday, June 22 to get hands-on CPR experience and learn how to use an AED (automated external defibrillator) from certified instructors.
Interested? Register today and indicate if you’d prefer to attend the 9:30 a.m. or 12:45 p.m. class. Both classes will run in Gyms 1 and 2 of the Campus Recreation and Wellness Centre at Durham College/Ontario Tech University (2000 Simcoe Street North, Oshawa).
Following the workshop, attendees will be encouraged to download the free PulsePoint apps to start saving lives:
- PulsePoint Respond, which advises when someone in a nearby public place requires CPR and provides information on where to find the closest public AED; and,
- PulsePoint AED, which displays a region-wide registry of AEDs and co-located resources such as bleeding control kits, naloxone and epinephrine.
As of April 2023, over 1,250 community members have downloaded the PulsePoint app in Oshawa Fire’s dispatch area (Oshawa, Brock, Scugog and Uxbridge). Interested community members can learn more and view the Oshawa Fire Activity Dashboard at oshawa.ca/PulsePoint and follow incidents in real time.
PulsePoint in our community is made possible through a partnership between Oshawa Fire Services and General Motors, and is supported by the City of Oshawa, Durham College, Ontario Tech University, Lakeridge Health and the Durham Region Critical Incident Stress Support Team. The partners thank GM Canada and OnStar for generously sponsoring the implementation of PulsePoint in our community.
