Oshawa looks to make tobogganing safer on City-owned lands
A recent report recommends that the City of Oshawa provide designated tobogganing areas on City-owned for safe community use.
In response to a Durham Municipal Insurance Pool (D.M.I.P.) Risk Assessment of Toboggan Hills, Report CO-23-05 recommends that the City provide two sanctioned tobogganing areas – one at Knights of Columbus Park and the other at Grandview Village Park. These two parks would have designated areas for tobogganing and sledding. In addition, the two sanctioned tobogganing areas would be inspected and maintained for safe community use.
The D.M.I.P. Risk Assessment Toboggan Hills Report included a risk assessment of toboggan hills located within municipalities across the Region of Durham. The City intends to post signage at other hills on City-owned lands indicating “Unsanctioned Hill, this Hill is not inspected or maintained for Tobogganing”. Additionally, City staff will continue to review opportunities where feasible to increase the number of sanctioned tobogganing areas within City parks.
The next step is for Report CO-23-05 to be considered by Oshawa City Council at its next City Council meeting on Monday, January 30.
