Recount results for the Office of Ward 1 City Councillor
On November 15, 2022, Oshawa City Council passed a resolution to require a recount of the votes cast for the Office of Ward 1 City Councillor for the candidates Rosemary McConkey and Theresa Corless.
The recount was held on Thursday, November 24. The recount included the tabulation of all the Ward 1 ballots cast at each of the 11 Advance Voting days, the Vote by Mail ballots, and the ballots cast at the 7 Polling Stations and at City Hall on Voting Day.
The Ward 1 ballots which were rejected by the vote tabulator (and were set aside as the voter was not present to fix the issue with the ballot) were also included in the recount. The Procedures included a review of these ballots and provided that if they were still rejected by the vote tabulator, the Clerk would review the ballot and if the voter’s intent was clear, the ballot would be shown to the Candidates and the ballot would be remarked in a manner which would be read by the vote tabulator.
The Candidates, Theresa Corless and Rosemary McConkey, and their Legal Representation were present while the Clerk reviewed the ballots. As a result, 7 ballots which had been originally rejected by the vote tabulator at City Hall on Voting Day were processed and accepted in a change to the total number of votes cast for both Rosemary McConkey and Theresa Corless. Rosemary McConkey remains the duly elected representative to the Office of City Councillor Ward 1.
The results of the recount for City Councillor - Ward 1 are:
2,409 total votes cast:
- Theresa Anne Corless: 1,094
- Ahmad Rashed Formuly: 208
- Rosemary McConkey: 1,107
Prior to the recount, the results were:
2,402 total votes cast:
- Theresa Anne Corless: 1,093
- Ahmad Rashed Formuly: 208
- Rosemary McConkey: 1,101
