Statement from Mayor Dan Carter on tragic residential fire

Oshawa Mayor Dan Carter has issued a statement following the tragic residential fire at 70 McGrigor Street earlier this morning:

“We are profoundly saddened by this heartbreaking tragedy. On behalf of City Council and the City of Oshawa, I extend our deepest sympathies to the families and friends of the family during this incredibly difficult time.

It is with great sorrow that we acknowledge the loss of a mother and one child who have succumbed to their injuries. Our thoughts are with the father and another child who were transported to hospitals with life-threatening injuries.

We are grateful to our first responders, including our dedicated fire crews, police officers and paramedics for their courageous efforts. Our thoughts are also with the six police officers who were treated in hospital for smoke inhalation.”
