Counsellor and Leader In Training Programs
Youth Leadership Programs
The City of Oshawa offers youth leadership programs for individuals aged 12 to 16 during the summer. These programs include the Counsellor in Training (C.I.T) and Leader in Training courses, designed to foster leadership skills in participants. Register for a youth program at activeOshawa Online or in person at a recreation facility.

Counsellor In Training (C.I.T.)
Prepare to be a camp counsellor through our C.I.T. session. The course consists of one week of in-class theory and two weeks of hands on experience at camp locations throughout the City of Oshawa. Youth 14 to 16 years of age have the opportunity to develop skills in:
- program planning
- leadership techniques
- behaviour management
- resume preparation
- interviews

Leader In Training
Participants 12 to 14 years of age can gain various of leadership skills in a fun and exciting recreation environment. The course consists of in-class theory and lessons, as well as a chance to use skills learned in a camp atmosphere. Develop skills in:
- program planning
- child/group management
- leadership techniques
- games/activities
- planning
- communication skills
