Love festive decorating?

Share your holiday spirit with us and you could WIN!

We will select three (3) winners at random using a randomizer application. We will post all entries and the winner by January 9, 2023

Contest details:

Do you have a passion for the Holidays? Love to decorate? Why not send us a photo of your holiday display this season and show us how you raise spirits in your neighbourhood, you could win a prize! 

We want to see your beautiful store window displays and homes lit up!

The contest opens in Monday November 28 12:01 a.m. and closes Saturday December 31 11:59 p.m.

Don't forget to share your holiday display on Facebook using our #OshHoliday.

Three photos will be chosen at random to receive a prize with a retail value of approximately $100.

Winners will be notified: Monday January 9, 2023

Online submission criteria

  • Subject – display must be viewable from the road or sidewalk
  • Entries must be the original photograph of the submitted and taken during the contest entry dates.
  • One submission per person/household
  • Photos submitted in a digital format not exceeding 5 MB in size.
  • JPEG format using the following file name template: Name_Title ( e.g. John Doe_Light Display.jpg)
  • Open to community members of Oshawa

Winners will be notified in January.

Terms and conditions

  • The Outdoor Holiday Display Contest (the "Contest") being held by the City of Oshawa (the “City”) will begin on November 28, 2022 at 12:01 a.m. and close on December 31, 2022 at 11:59 p.m. (Eastern Time).
  • The Contest is open to anyone 18 years of age or older who is a resident of the City of Oshawa.
  • No purchase is required to enter the Contest.
  • The prizes will consist of three Gift Bags with an approximate value of one-hundred dollars ($100) each.
  • The winners will be selected at random. Each entry will be assigned a number, and a random number generator application will be used to select the winners.
  • To enter the Contest, submit a photograph (taken during the contest dates) of your outdoor holiday display, which must be located in the City of Oshawa, using the City's on-line submission form available on the Share your Holiday Spirit page.
  • Only one (1) entry may be submitted per Contest entrant.
  • Photographs must be submitted in digital format not exceeding 5 MB in size.
  • Photographs must be submitted in JPEG, JPG or PNG format using the following file name template: Photographer's Name_Title.jpg (e.g. JohnDoe_Light Display.jpg).
  • The photograph submitted must be the sole creation of the Contest entrant. Accordingly, photographs shall not contain any content taken from the Internet, copyrighted material, or which otherwise incorporate another person's work.
  • The photograph must be taken during the time of the contest November 28, 12:01 a.m. to December 31, 11:59 p.m.
  • Photographs shall not contain any identifiable individuals in them.
  • By participating in the Contest, the entrant acknowledges and agrees that City staff may screen all entries prior to their inclusion in the Contest and the City in their sole discretion reserves the right to reject an entry for any reason, including but not limited to, vulgarity, obscenity, any form of criminal activity, multiple entries, and any violation of these terms and conditions, without any notice or reasons to the entrant.
  • The City reserves the right to select which photographs will appear on the City's online photo gallery contained on the City's Share your Holiday Spirit page and/or the City's social media accounts on Facebook or Twitter.
  • Potential winners will be contacted by the City via email/telephone before the end of January 2023. By submitting a photo, the entrant consents to the City contacting the entrant by email/telephone.
  • Contest winners have 5 business days to claim their prize, if it is not claimed within that time the prize is forfeited and new recipient will be selected.
  • Prior to claiming a prize, potential winners must show proper photo identification to City staff to confirm their identity and eligibility for the Contest.
  • Employees of the City are not eligible to win the Contest.
  • No person is eligible to receive more than one prize.
  • The City reserves the right to cancel the Contest for any reason whatsoever without further notice.
  • By participating in the Contest, entrants hereby provide the City with an unlimited licence to use any photograph(s) submitted, including but not limited to use in all City communications, City advertising, and publicity purposes, without any compensation whatsoever to the entrant.
  • By participating in the Contest, entrants hereby acknowledge and agree that the City is not responsible for any use or further distribution of their submitted photograph by a third party once it is posted publicly.
  • By participating in the Contest, entrants hereby permit the City to use the entrant's name, city of residence, and submitted photograph for advertising or publicity purposes without any compensation whatsoever.
  • By participating in the Contest, entrants hereby release and hold harmless the City from any and all actions, charges, claims, costs, damages, demands, liabilities, losses, suits, proceedings, costs and expenses pertaining to the entrant's participation in the Contest.
  • By participating in the Contest, entrants agree that all decisions of the City and its employees in relation to the Contest are final and binding. Entrants also agree that the selection of the winners by City staff is final and not subject to any right of appeal or review.
  • By participating in the Contest, entrants represent and warrant that they have read and understood and agree to be bound by these Terms and Conditions.

Collection statement

Personal information of individuals who participate in this contest is collected under the authority of the Municipal Act, 2001 and will be used for the purposes of administering the Outdoor Holiday Display Contest, and may be used for advertising or publicity purposes. Questions concerning collection of personal information should be directed to the City of Oshawa's Freedom of Information and Privacy Coordinator at 50 Centre St. S., Oshawa, Ontario, L1H 3Z7 or 905-436-3311.
