General Information |
You do not need a building permit for a deck if:
- The height from the ground to the top of the deck is not more than 24 in;
- The deck is not supporting a roof; and
- The deck complies with Oshawa's Zoning By-Law for location and setbacks.

Permit Application Requirements |
- A building permit application form and a Schedule 1 Designer Information form fully completed.
- An owner's authorization form will be required if the applicant is not the property owner.
- Include two copies of the survey or site plan of your property showing dimensions and distances to your property lines for all buildings, structures and your new deck.
- Include two copies of drawn-to-scale plans showing how you are going to build your deck.
- Permit fee when you apply. You may pay by cheque (payable to "City of Oshawa"), cash, debit, Visa, MasterCard, or American Express.
Note: The person preparing the drawings/plans will complete the Schedule 1 Designer Information form.
