The City is committed to the development of an inclusive, healthy and safe community by providing accessible facilities, programs and services for everyone to enjoy.
People with disabilities represent a major and growing part of our population. About 1.85 million (15.5%) of people in Ontario have a disability. In Oshawa, this statistic represents over 24,000 residents. These numbers will continue to grow considerably in the next 20 years as the population ages.
The multi-year 2019 - 2023 Oshawa Accessibility Plan sets out the steps the City will take to improve accessibility and meet the legislated requirements. To assist Council and staff with this process, the Oshawa Accessibility Advisory Committee reviews municipal policies, programs and services in order to identify, remove and prevent barriers faced by people with disabilities.
