The City of Oshawa is committed to improving air quality. This will help achieve the goal of Environmental Responsibility as outlined in the Oshawa Strategic Plan, and enhance the quality of life for all of our residents.
The Ontario Ministry of the Environment and Climate Change operates 40 Air Quality Index (A.Q.I.) monitoring stations in the province. There is one station in Durham Region. It is located in Oshawa at Durham College.
City staff monitors the province's annual report on air quality monitoring stations and reports the findings to Council. The most recent report is DS-16-63.
The City has an anti-idling by-law. The by-law makes it an offense to idle for more than 3 consecutive minutes.
