Building Inspections
Our Building Inspectors are not "Home Inspectors". They inspect new construction applied for on a building permit. Permit staff review and issue the permit and our Inspectors inspect this work to make sure that construction complies with the Ontario Building Code, applicable by-laws and regulations.
What prompts a building inspection?
- We receive a phone call about someone building without a permit;
- An application for a building permit needs further investigation;
- A building has been damaged by fire, a vehicle or by weather;
- A building is reported to be unsafe; or
- Building permit is issued.
What happens after we issue your building permit?
You must call your Building Inspector when you are ready to start the work. The Building Inspector will tell you when you need to call for an inspection.
How do I get an inspection?
Call 905-436-5658 and ask for your Building Inspector by name or enter his extension number. If you call before 8:30 a.m., you may get an inspection the same day. Our hours for inspection are Monday to Thursday from 7:30 a.m. to 6:00 p.m. and Friday from 7:30 a.m. to 4:00 p.m.
