Oshawa Mayor Dan Carter has announced the formation of a Task Force that brings together community stakeholders to identify and propose opportunities to address community safety, security and well-being issues facing the city.
Due to the complexities of these issues, the Mayor’s Task Force on Community Safety, Security and Well-Being will address priorities in multiple phases. Phase 1 will focus on downtown Oshawa and the surrounding area, with additional phases to be identified as necessary that may focus on other areas of the city.
Chaired by Regional and City Councillor Bob Chapman, members of the task force include Mayor Dan Carter and representatives from the Greater Oshawa Chamber of Commerce, Durham Regional Police Services and social service agencies, as well as representation from the local business community, community partners and residents.

Downtown Area Action Plan |
The Community Safety, Security and Well-Being in Oshawa’s Downtown Area Action Plan recommends 37 action items. The action items have been sorted under five categories: Social Services, Property Owner Support, Health and Safety, Enforcement, and Revitalization / Image. The Action Plan also provides an estimated timeframe in which the work on the action item will begin, identifies who is leading the action item and who is providing support. It should be noted that the Action Plan is not static and will be continually updated as new information is obtained, as circumstances change and as best practices are learned. |
