The City is committed to identifying, removing and preventing barriers to accessibility. The Oshawa Accessibility Advisory Committee assists with the preparation and monitoring of accessibility plans to address the community's needs as well as federal and provincial legislation.
Oshawa Accessibility Advisory Committee |
Oshawa Accessibility Advisory Committee (O.A.A.C.) members advise and assist Council and staff on the removal and prevention of barriers for people with disabilities. |
Accessibility Plans |
As required in the Accessibility for Ontarians with Disabilities Act, 2005, many municipalities must prepare multi-year Accessibility Plans. City Council is required to approve plans that identify, remove and prevent barriers that may limit residents and visitors with disabilities when they are using City facilities, programs and services.

Oshawa Accessibility Design Standards |
The Oshawa Accessibility Design Standards (O.A.D.S.) is a technical design document used by City staff to enhance accessibility beyond the minimal requirements of the Ontario Building Code.
This standard responds to the needs of all residents and visitors for both the design and construction of new facilities, as well as the retrofit, alteration or addition to existing facilities, owned, leased or operated by the City. The use of the O.A.D.S. is encouraged throughout the community for facility construction or renovation as the standards incorporate the principles of "universal design" that benefit people of all ages and abilities. |
