The City of Oshawa is implementing a new and improved diversion program in our recreation facilities and in the downtown, but we need your help to be successful. It is not just about putting your litter in the bin; it is about recycling it right.
Recycling right when we are out in the community is just as important as when we are at home. However, despite best efforts, public space recycling programs can sometimes be confusing and materials end up too contaminated to be recycled or cost more to sort properly.
New multi-stream waste and recycling units can be found inside and outside of our recreation facilities and are designed to increase participation and reduce contamination. The new units use colour-coded text and images that make it easier to recycle right. Community members can clearly see how to sort their waste before placing it in one of the unit’s openings for paper, cans and bottles, waste and organics.
You are encouraged when visiting our recreation facilities and when in the downtown to pause and check to make sure you are placing items in the correct spot.
