The Cultural Leadership Council helps to implement Culture Counts: Oshawa's Arts, Culture and Heritage Plan. The leadership group is comprised of Standing and Appointment Members who represent external agencies, post-secondary partners, Oshawa-based cultural organizations, creative industries, local businesses, and community members, including artists and youth. The Cultural Leadership Council assists City staff with the implementation of various Culture Counts initiatives and acts as the lead and co-lead on specific strategies and action items.
In addition to serving as a resource to City staff, the volunteer members attend meetings, participate in local cultural events and initiatives and share public feedback on the cultural activities.
In February 2014, the City of Oshawa approved its first Cultural Plan: Culture Counts - Oshawa`s Arts, Culture and Heritage Plan. Under the Strategy to "Broaden and Evolve the City's Role in arts, Culture and Heritage" the City is to establish a cross-sectoral leadership group (e.g. Cultural Roundtable) to align resources across the public, private and voluntary sectors in order to build the collective capacity to implement the Plan and ongoing cultural development. The leadership group is to have representation from a cross-section of municipal, cultural, business, community and educational interests.
