The City of Oshawa is proud of our award winning parks, gardens, and floral displays found throughout the city. You will find a variety of gardens and floral displays including roadside gardens, gateway gardens, planters, hanging baskets and wonderful destination gardens that keep our city looking bright, vibrant and beautiful.
Take time to smell the flowers and enjoy our feature gardens!
Our gardens foster civic pride and recognition throughout the community and beyond. We have been awarded provincial, national and international honours for Communities in Bloom.
The first seed starts in our greenhouse where the flowers are grown before being planted in the spring. The flowerbeds are designed, planted and maintained by City staff. Our gardeners find new and interesting ways to use plants and flowers in the many gardens and floral displays located throughout the city.
Oshawa has been designated a Bee City by Bee City Canada in recognition of our commitment to develop, restore and preserve pollinator-friendly habitats.
We have five formal pollinator gardens and four community gardens with pollinator species planted throughout them. Many of our other flowering gardens and baskets also provide pollen to various species of insects.
We were also one of the first municipalities in Canada to incorporate a pest management program for City land prior to the Pesticide Act, and our Boulevard By-Law has been amended to encourage pollinator planting on City boulevards. Our crews also incorporate no mow or low mow species as much as possible to increase naturalization of new and existing parks.
