Sandy Hawley Park Opens
A new addition to the City’s network of neighbourhood parks, Sandy Hawley Park, was completed on October 8, 2021. The design incorporated feedback from the local community received during a community engagement session held in December 2019.
Sandy Hawley Park features a playground, splash pad, 7v7 soccer field, and half basketball court, and recognizes the history of the area as Windfields Farm, with a barn themed play structure and a garden inspired splash pad. A boulder, originally located on Windfields Farms, has been relocated to adjacent the playground and splashpad, and surrounded by wood fibre safety surfacing, providing a unique play experience. Adjacent the playground and splashpad is shade seating, with accessible tables.
Sandy Hawley Park offers a variety of opportunities for active and individual play, as well as an accessible multi-use path which connects Kentucky Derby Way to the woodlot at the west end of the park. Tree plantings and naturalized areas connects the natural environment throughout the park.
