Refunds

Program registrants wishing to withdraw from a registered program must complete a Refund Request Form.

Participants will receive a full refund when:

  • The City of Oshawa cancels the program before the program start date.
  • The participant withdraws from the program and submits a refund request form seven or more days before the program starts.

Participants will receive a partial refund when:

  • The participant withdraws from the program and submits a refund request form less than seven days before the start date and before the start of the second class. Program refunds are subject to an $12 administration fee. Partial refunds are pro-rated based on the number of classes remaining at the time of the refund.

Refund requests will not be accepted after the start of the second class of a program unless it is for a medical reason. In the case of a medical reason, a doctor's note must be submitted when the Refund Request Form is received.

Additional information

Age requirements

All program participants must be the minimum age for the program by the program start date. A parent or legal guardian must register participants under the age of 18.

Missed classes

If you cannot attend a class, make-up classes will not be offered and a refund will not be given.

Program changes

The City of Oshawa reserves the right to cancel, postpone or combine classes, limit or increase registration, and change the time, location or instructor.

Program cancellations

Programs may not run if there is low registration, or circumstances beyond our control. If this situation occurs, you may transfer free of charge to another program (subject to availability) or receive a full credit or refund.

Please visit activeOshawa Online to see the most up-to-date program information.

Program fees and H.S.T.

The total program fee is due at the time of registration. Cash, debit, Visa, American Express, MasterCard, and cheques payable to the City of Oshawa are accepted methods of payment.

Any program for participants ages 14 years and older is H.S.T. taxable.

All fees in the activeOshawa Guide include material fees, award fees, and applicable taxes. When completing your registration online, the total program fee, including taxes, will appear at checkout. All fees are subject to change. When discrepancies in fees appear, the registration system will be taken as the correct fee.

Program registrations after the first day of the program will have program fees pro-rated.

Returned payments

A $40 administration charge is applied to your account for any payments returned by your bank. You will be required to provide an alternative method of payment for your program fee. You will not be able to complete any further purchases until we receive your repayment.

Financial assistance

Oshawa community members may be eligible to receive financial assistance based on annual income to assist with the cost of participation in our programs. The Access to Recreation - Recreation Subsidy Program offer a variety of financial assistance programs. Verify your eligibility by contacting a Supervisor at a recreation facility.

To receive financial assistance for a program, registration must be completed in person at an eligible recreation facility.

Frequently Asked Questions

If my child reaches the minimum age required for a program after the program starts, can they still register?

No, participants must be the correct age at the start of their registered program. For example, if a program begins on July 4 and the minimum age required is five, the child must be five on July 4. If the child does not turn five until July 11, they are not eligible for the program.

I am not sure what my child’s swim level is. How do I find out?

Visit a recreation facility during public swim or family swim for a complimentary swim assessment before registration day or contact Service Oshawa at 905-436-3311 to connect with an Aquatic Coordinator.

Can I register my child for a program using my account?

To register your child for a program, you must first add them to your family group account. If this process is not completed, you will not be able to register your child for a program. Learn how to add family members to your account at activeOshawa Online Help.
