City recruiting volunteers for its Boards and Committees
The City of Oshawa is seeking individuals who are interested in becoming more involved in their community by donating their skills and time to deal with various issues associated with our City relating to local government.
The appointment of citizens to boards and committees listed below give the public an opportunity to volunteer their skills and time to deal with various issues associated with our City.
All terms are until November 2026.
Current volunteer opportunities include:
Committee of Adjustment
To review and consider minor variances from the provisions of municipal by-laws such as the Zoning By-law, including changes to legal non-conforming uses.
Heritage Oshawa
To advise and assist Council on all matters relating to the designation and preservation of heritage properties as well as the education and promotion of the City’s cultural heritage resources.
Oshawa Animal Care Advisory Committee
To assist, advise and educate City Council, staff, key stakeholders and the wider Oshawa community with respect to continually improving the efficient and compassionate care of animals within the City of Oshawa.
Oshawa Environmental Advisory Committee
To advise and educate City Council, staff, and the community with respect to the protection, enhancement, restoration, management and appreciation of the natural and built environments.
Oshawa Accessibility Advisory Committee
To advise and assist City Council in developing and facilitating strategies and actions towards a barrier-free Oshawa. Members include persons with disabilities and individuals interested in issues related to persons with disabilities.
The process
Along with a resume, every committee candidate must submit an application form, available at online at oshawa.ca/CommitteeRecruitment or in person at Oshawa City Hall, 50 Centre Street South.
Qualified applicants will be contacted for an interview. Following interviews, City Council will consider the names of Oshawa citizens who wish to stand for appointment.
