2026 Municipal and School Board Elections information session
The 2026 Municipal and School Board Elections is Monday, October 26 and candidate registration for municipal council or school board positions opens Friday, May 1.
Those interested in running for local office, serving as a campaign manager or registering as a third-party advertiser this October are encouraged to attend the upcoming 2026 Municipal Election Information Session. These sessions are designed to help prospective participants understand the election process and ensure they are well-prepared and informed.
Representatives from the Ministry of Municipal Affairs and Housing (MMAH) will deliver two virtual information sessions at 7 p.m. on Wednesday, March 25 and Tuesday, April 14. Participants may register to attend either session at oshawa.ca/Election.
Each session will include a presentation from the Ministry of Municipal Affairs and Housing covering key topics such as:
- Roles and responsibilities of elected officials, staff and third-party advertisers
- Eligibility rules
- Nomination process
- Campaign finances
- Compliance audit
- Voter's list and voting proxy
- Scrutineers
- Recounts
- Resources
