Alexandra Park’s 120-year history comes to life with a new outdoor exhibit
Visit Alexandra Park to learn about the history of the park and the surrounding area in a new temporary outdoor history exhibition, created in partnership with Oshawa Museum.
Alexandra Park was established as Oshawa’s first public park in 1906 to provide the community with a much-needed outdoor gathering place. The park quickly became a hub of activity.
The history exhibition highlights:
- The Indigenous history of the area.
- The efforts of the community to create a public park in Oshawa in 1906.
- The Southern Ontario Agricultural Fair at Alexandra Park, where Oshawa gathered to celebrate its rural roots.
- The wide variety of sports, recreation and everyday play that took place, and how it continues to be a hub for people to come together for games or simply relaxation.
- The history of the neighbouring nursing school that trained generations of nurses who helped to care for countless members of the community.
