Call for Expressions of Interest: Indigenous writers to develop a language and culture public art project
The City of Oshawa is excited to launch a call for Indigenous writers to submit Expressions of Interest for an Indigenous language and culture public art project at Ed Broadbent Waterfront Park.
This is a two-stage process, open to Indigenous creative writers, poets, artists, Knowledge Holders or storytellers connected to or from the Williams Treaties First Nations, which include the Mississaugas of Scugog Island, Hiawatha, Curve Lake, and Alderville First Nations, and the Chippewas of Georgina Island, Rama and Beausoleil First Nations. The selected writer will be commissioned to develop text-based artwork that can be installed in Ed Broadbent Waterfront Park.
Writers are invited to apply to Stage 1 of this call by completing the online application form and submitting the required accompanying documents at oshawa.ca/ArtistCalls.
Deadline: Applications are due by 11:59 p.m. on Thursday, November 5.
A Public Art Jury comprised of Indigenous community members from the seven First Nations who are signatories to the Williams Treaties will review and score Stage 1 applications received to identify a shortlist of writers for Stage 2.
Additional Information:
- Shortlisted writer fees: The shortlisted writers will be paid a fee of $750 for their participation in the Stage 2 process.
- Selected writers fee: The selected writer will be paid a fee of $12,000.
