Oshawa declares a Significant Weather Event

The City of Oshawa has declared a Significant Weather Event in accordance with Ontario Regulation 239/02. 

A Significant Weather Event is declared when hazardous weather conditions are occurring or expected. Following yesterday’s snowfall of more than 30 centimetres, hazardous ice conditions and an additional 8 cm of snow are forecasted today. 

Our snow crews are working around the clock to clear City roads (starting with aerial and collector roads followed by residential roads) and then sidewalks in priority sequence. Due to the severe weather, it may take longer than usual to return our roads and sidewalks to optimal conditions. We thank you for your patience. 

Let’s work together 

• Keep vehicles off the road to support snow-clearing operations. Vehicles parked on City streets during snow clearing may be ticketed or towed.  

• Occasional Use Parking Permits will not be issued at this time.  

• Clear snow and ice on sidewalks adjacent to your property. 

• Place waste and recycling materials at ground level at the end of your driveway, in an area free of snow and ice. Do not place materials on snowbanks. 

• Report downed trees, streetlight outages, or road debris to Service Oshawa.  

• Report power outages to Oshawa Power at 905-723-4623. 

• Check out our Snow Clearing Activity Report for updates on the progress of snow clearing operations. The Activity Report is updated throughout the day and based on visual observations by City staff. The projected completion times are calculated based on equipment capabilities, temperature, snow intensity and duration. 

• To help our crews clear City roads and sidewalks as quickly as possible, we ask that you please wait 24 hours after the significant weather event has ended before reporting unplowed areas to Service Oshawa.
