Oshawa declares a Significant Weather Event – Recreation facilities closed

The City of Oshawa has declared a Significant Weather Event in accordance with Ontario Regulation 239/02.

As a result of the storm, all City recreation facilities will be closing today at 12 p.m. (noon Sunday, January 25) including all drop-in programs, swimming, skating and fitness centres. City facilities will re-open no earlier than 12 noon on Monday, January 26; we will provide updated timing as the Significant Weather Event progresses.

Snow Clearing

  • Our crews are working around the clock to clear roads and then sidewalks based on a priority system – primary roads, followed by residential streets and then sidewalks.

  • Patrol teams will reassign plows as needed to clear primary roads.

  • It may take longer than usual to return roads and sidewalks to optimal conditions - thank you for your patience.

Let’s work together

  • Parking on the street is not allowed during plowing and salting operations and is subject to escalating fines / towing.

  • Occasional Use Parking Permits are not valid and will not be issued. Place waste and recycling materials at ground level at the end of your driveway, in an area free of snow and ice. Do not place materials on snowbanks.

  • Report power outages to Oshawa Power at 905-723-4623.

  • Report downed trees, streetlight outages, or road debris to Service Oshawa at 905-436-3311.

  • Wait 24 hours after the Significant Weather Event ends before reporting an unplowed road: 905-436-3311.
