Update: changes to City facilities and services

Oshawa has declared a Significant Weather Event. Our crews continue to work around the clock to clear roads and sidewalks, prioritizing main routes first. Please avoid any unnecessary travel and keep vehicles off the road during snow‑clearing operations.

As a result of the storm:

  • The regular City Council meeting originally planned for Monday, January 26 will now take place on Tuesday, January 27 at 9:30 a.m.
  • In-person counter services at City Hall (Service Oshawa, Building Services, Taxation Services and Licensing and Standards) will re-open no earlier than 12 noon on Monday, January 26. Service Oshawa will be available by phone, email or live online chat during regular business hours.
  • All City recreation facilities, Oshawa Senior Community Centres and Oshawa Public Libraries remain closed and will re-open no earlier than 12 p.m. noon on Monday, January 26.

As a result of the storm all City Facilities will be closed Sunday, January 25, including all drop-in programs, swimming, skating and fitness centres.

More snow and extreme cold are in the forecast this weekend. 

City Operations 

  • At this time, City recreation facilities will be open and programs will run as scheduled. 

Snow Clearing

  • The City follows a priority system: arterial and collector roads first, then residential streets and then sidewalks. View the snow clearing activity report.  

Extreme cold 

  • Limit outdoor activity and dress in layers.
  • Check in on vulnerable friends, neighbours, family and pets. 
  • For homelessness support, contact the Region by dialing 3-1-1 (press 4) or call 9-1-1 to report an immediate safety concern.
  • The City’s Adequate Heat By-law requires rented or leased living accommodations to have a minimum indoor temperature of at least 22°C from September 1 to June 15. 

Parking 

  • Parking on the street is not allowed during plowing and salting operations and is subject to escalating fines.
  • From December 1 to April 1 there is no on-street parking from 2 a.m. to 6 a.m.
  • Occasional Use Parking Permits will not be issued. 

Have concerns 

  • Please check the snow clearing activity report and wait a full day. Report concerns after 12:01 a.m. on the second day following the end of the snow accumulation by calling Service Oshawa.
  • Report trees down, streetlight outages, or road debris to Service Oshawa.
  • Report power outages to Oshawa Power at 905-723-4623.
