Building Permit Drawings

Architectural drawings or plans for your property

You can submit a search request for permit drawings associated with a property you own. Any permit drawings or plans located within our files will be sent digitally to the owner or approved agent. Hard copies are not available.

Are you the owner?

Only the owner of the property or their authorized agent may request drawings. Authorized agents will be required to submit a completed authorization letter which can be uploaded when submitting the request.

If you purchased the property within the last 3 months, you will be required to provide a copy of the registered land transfer document. Please note: Sales and Purchase Agreements will not be accepted.

If you are not the property owner or authorized agent, you will need to complete a Freedom of Information request.

Our files and record retention

The current Records Retention By-law 32-2021, requires building permit and inspection records be retained for 15 years, however, previous Records Retention By-laws were for shorter periods.  Therefore, it is not guaranteed that records are available.

Some non-residential building permit drawings may be available beyond retention periods depending on size of the project.

In the event that we do not have drawings/plans on file and you require them for renovation work, a qualified person such as an architect, or B.C.I.N. designer, may be able to advise you on how to proceed.

Fee

There is a non refundable fee of $105.

Timeline for drawing requests

Drawing requests submitted are processed within 4-6 weeks.

Resources

The Land Registry Office (L.R.O.) may have surveys and other property information such as subdivision and lot plans available.

Alternatively, if you’re unable to locate a survey through the L.R.O. you may wish to access the websites below or contact a local surveyor who may have one on file or may facilitate the creation of a new survey.
