Corporate Energy Management Plan

As outlined in the Government of Ontario’s Regulation 25/23 Electricity Act, 1998, the City of Oshawa has created an energy conservation and demand management plan, available to community members.

Oshawa’s Corporate Energy Management Plan (C.E.M.P.) aims to guide energy management strategies, improve municipal resource distribution and promote cost-beneficial energy initiatives. In addition, the C.E.M.P. aligns with Oshawa’s Strategic Plan (O.S.P.) and Durham Community Energy Plan (D.C.E.P.).

Oshawa’s 2024 Energy Reporting submission to the Ministry of Energy summarizes 2022 and 2023 consumption data for the prescribed facilities, as described in the C.E.M.P.

The 2024-2028 Plan was endorsed by Council and encompasses the development of the Oshawa Corporate Facilities Green Building Standard and the Net-Zero emissions strategy for corporate facilities.

Net zero emission target for 2050

The City of Oshawa has set a corporate carbon reduction target to reach Net Zero Emissions by 2050. This aligns with federal and regional targets. The Net Zero Emission Retrofit Strategy will develop options for retrofitting existing facilities, in support of the City's carbon reduction targets. Feasibility studies will support the selection of city facilities, with priority based on highest gas consumption.

In 2024, the City received “certificate of appreciation” from the Region of Durham in recognition of the City of Oshawa's outstanding commitment to sustainability and dedication to building a greener Durham Region with the successful implementation of Oshawa’s Net Zero Emission Retrofit Strategy.
