Air Quality

The City of Oshawa is committed to improving air quality to enhance the quality of life for all community members.

The Ministry of the Environment, Conservation and Parks operate 38 Air Quality Index monitoring stations in Ontario, one of which is in Oshawa.

City staff monitor the Province's annual Air Quality in Ontario Report and share the findings with Council annually. The most recent report is INFO-25-28 dated February 12, 2025.

Community Greenhouse Gas Reduction Plan

Partners for Climate Protection

The City of Oshawa is a proud member of the Federation of Canadian Municipalities Partners for Climate Protection (PCP) program. This program is a network of over 450 municipalities across Canada committed to taking action against climate change by reducing municipal greenhouse gas emissions. 

Achievements 

  • The City of Oshawa has achieved the top-level Milestone five on a corporate level - monitoring and reporting results.
  • At the community level, Oshawa has advanced to Milestone three – Developing a local action plan - and is progressing towards Milestone four, which involves implementing a local climate action plan.

Progress monitoring and reporting results will continue according to the plan.

Community Greenhouse Gas Reduction Plan

The City of Oshawa’s Community Greenhouse Gas Reduction Plan was completed as a Council priority through the Federation of Canadian Municipalities Partners for Climate Protection program. In coordination with the Oshawa Strategic Plan, Oshawa Official Plan, Integrated Transportation Master Plan and the Active Transportation Master Plan, this Plan provides guidance on how to reduce community-wide emissions over the short and long term.
