Weeds, Plants and Lawns

Weeds are plants growing in a location that is unwanted by the owner. To prevent weeds from growing in your lawn, you must have a healthy lawn and over seed to ensure the grass is thick and there is no room for weeds to grow.

  • Lawns only require one inch of water per week, this includes rain. Overwatering can cause issues with pests and diseases. Check the Regions web site for the days you are allowed to water your lawns.
  • Mowing your lawn at two and a half inches to three inches helps prevent the growth of weeds
  • Over seeding your lawn with the correct type of grass will keep the lawn thick and prevent the growth of weeds

Ontario cosmetic pesticide ban

The Ontario Pesticide Act prevents the spraying of most chemicals on lawns and gardens for esthetic reasons. Visit the the Government of Ontario webpage to learn more.
