National Day for Truth and Reconciliation – changes to City services and programs

The City is honoured to proclaim September 30 as the National Day for Truth and Reconciliation in Oshawa.

The National Day for Truth and Reconciliation was established through Call to Action 80 of the Truth and Reconciliation Commission, which called on the federal government, in collaboration with Indigenous Peoples, to create a statutory holiday recognizing Survivors, their families, and communities while ensuring the history and legacy of residential schools are publicly remembered

Community members can observe in several ways throughout the month. Join us for a Survivors’ Flag raising and artist talk (September 28), participate in Orange Shirt Day (September 30), and visit one of our Orange Ribbon memorial sites throughout the city (until October 9). City Hall and Service Oshawa

The City will observe National Truth and Reconciliation on Wednesday, September 30. City Hall and Service Oshawa will be closed on that day.

For your convenience, Customer Service Representatives will be on hand at Service Oshawa on Saturday, September 26, from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m.

Waste Services

There will be no changes to waste collection service on Wednesday, September 30.

Recreation Facilities

Recreation facilities will be open with regular hours of operation on Wednesday, September 30, for activities, programs, and facility permits.
